POSTCARDS FROM THE GHOSTZONE

These sculptures were a response to the unfolding news of the great number of murderous 'ghostnets' being found floating in our oceans, in particular, those found off  the Australian coastline.

It was whale migration season, and watchers thrilled to the sight of the rare albino whale Migaloo who was occasionally spotted on his migratory trail along the tropical coast

Imagining the dangers Migaloo would have to avoid in order to complete his migration and fulfil his reproduction imperative were the motivating urges for me to create these works.

As well as avoiding ghostnets, Migaloo and his kin are required to avoid Japanese Research Vessels, Sonic booms caused by research vessels, propellor strike, harpoons from countries who still whale hunt and plain old toxic poisoning.
